I wanted to encourage people to think outside of their Euro-centric worlds and
take a moment to consider the great unknown of the world that is not Europe.
Alas, a number of willing writers decided to un-volunteer themselves of this
all-too-onerous task, so the opening chapter is shorter than I'd hoped but it's
worth sinking your teeth into. Luca opens with a vituperative indictment of the
exclusivity of European-ness, which leads into an eye-opening account of his
experience of working in Bolivia. Then the self-sacrificing Tino proposes a
rethink on how young Europeans should be spending their military service, before
Nat considers how European, and the states which govern them, relate to their past and have a sense of duty in the
present. I slip in a brief word or two questioning how far development aid from
Europe should extend. And finally, Tiago talks of a similar sense of the duty
that Europeans have to the rest of the world and encourages us to open our eyes
to all the things that we take for granted. There has been a fleeting revolution in the Counterpoint section and
people's views have been forced to secede to a survey of Europeans, and
a few of `the others' And finally fall free for the Freefall. From the kitchen to the bedroom
(Marta), via poetry in motion (Matthew), a reflection on the messages that we
take in and how we live our lives (Lilly), and Yugoslavia leading the
non-aligned during those halcyon days of the Cold War (Irham). Its all there, so
read away and enjoy. Living Bridges im Netz
Living Bridges (LB) is an inter-european youth organization aimed at discussing
national, regional, and common European “hot“ and “not so hot” economic,
social, political and cultural topics. Our goal is to envision the Europe we
want to live in tomorrow.
Crossroads is a quarterly European magazine produced by Living Bridges in which
members express their views on common themes, present different European cities,
introduce you to their countries, discuss the Living Bridges organisation and
lots more.
A number of LBs have already written for Crossroads. Others have not. Whichever
side you have been on so far: dont be scared, this is not an academic paper
where only heavily researched articles are to be published. In fact, if you want
to send in a 5 line note about a little detail that connects with the topic,
that is just as fine as if you wrote an entire article. The richness of
Crossroads highly depends on the different contributions from different people
and different backgrounds.

It is the editor who chooses the theme of his/her issue, and who is also very
free in “conceptualising” his/her issue: thus each Crossroads looks very
different from the others - which reflects the diversity of Living Bridges. If
you want to be the editor of a future Crossroads issue, you should propose a
theme to our chief editor, who will get back to you with the necessary
information and assistance.
